HI, my name is Ava, and I am going to tell you about what I’m doing and expecting this Halloween. Ilike this Halloween already because it is on a Saturday and I like weekends, now weekdays. I am dressing up as a cat. I am dressing up as a cat because I got a cat costume for my dance performance. It cost $80 (I think) and my mom had to pay for it. She told me I was going to wear it for Halloween. I’m not complaining, because the costume is very cute. I am going to go trick-or-treating with my friends, Rachel, Sophia, Reese, Jordyn, Paige, and Maddie. Sophia is dressing up as a cat too. We will trick-or-treat in Rachel’s neighborhood because it has the best candy. Whenever Rachel gets something with peanuts or peanut butter we will trade because she is allergic. After we will go back to Rachel’s and trade candy. Our parents will yell at us because we will dump our candy all over the carpet. I hope I get a lot of Hershey’s because those are my favorite.
-Ava; Fifth Grade

One night three kids went trick or treating. They were dressed like minions. They thought they were scary but three clowns came up and took all our candy! They gave us our bags back without candy in them. Instead a lot of bats came out of the bags! We all were scared. Who ate the candy? THe clowns or the bats?

The students at C.A.R.E. are starting the school year off strong with lots of writing time. A lot of this week’s articles are a collaboration of the beginning of school, life events and the importance of environment. One piece in particular is a compilation of a young girl’s mind which is molded by those around her. It is a lovely free write and we are very excited to see all of our students’ writing skills progress! Join us in this journey by reading our weekly articles in the paper and online, and by supporting C.A.R.E. Learning Academy/SCV Tutors.

The Wacky World
If I could make a book about my life I would title it, The Wacky World. I would title it that because the world in my eyes is wacky. Another reason I would call it that is because I would tell a story about my experience in the world. The last reason I would title it The Wacky World is because my life is just wacky, just like the world.
Ross Sheldon

My First Day of School
My first day of school was nerve racking, but I saw a lot of my friends. My favorite subject is Art!
More to come as the school year progresses.

So often, a lot of people are so worried about the first day of school. However, today it was the best day becasue we got to do so much! It was a schocker that all of my classes are right next door to each other. All of my teachers were so nice, too. They gave one page of homework, and everyone was so nice to me. Then, when I got home, I figured out the homework was not homework at all! It was an invitation to the school’s Ice Cream Party!!

Make Your Mark
One thing in my life that I value is that I was able to see and hear my little, baby cousin walk! He was so cute when he first tried walking. He slowly put his hands on my shoulders because he was so scared. Right when he touched me, I felt trust and honesty. He believed in me that I would not hurt him. It felt amazing! Then, I said to him, “You can do it! Just go.”
So he went and his mom smiled at him right when he started to take off. He fell, fell, fell, and I was there helping him. I told myselve over and over to not give up because I can help others! It really helped me and others to tell myself that. I messed up almost every second but I did really want my cousin to walk so I did not give up on him. In a couple hours, he was walking more and more. He trusted me that I can help him, which I did. It was worth it.
Jasmine Laham Grade 5

My Life is cool. It is normal, but weird. I think my life is cool because my family is there with me. I like my life because I have friends. Also, I know not to be a bully because it is not nice. My birthday is coming up and I am really happy with my life because I have everything I need and I will always have love in my heart.

Why Do You Think We Dream?
Well people dream because they use their imagination. When you use your, you dream at night or you can day dream. It’s really cool. You could make it fantasy, or you could dream about today. Maybe you could dream about the Iphone 8 coming out and how exciting that would be. You could dream about a nightmare too. A nightmare is a scary dream and sometimes it could be so scary it wakes you up.

news kidsIf I had a Thousand Dollars

By Isabella Grade 3
If I had $1000, I would spend it on so many things like, a huge house that has a money tree but does not have $1 but $1000. I would also buy gold nuggets and buy new car. It will be a Malibu. If I had to pick one, that would be the house.

C.A.R.E. Student
If I had $1,000, I would get a home with a pool, a cat and a dog, and plenty of food and water and books. I would also probably have my family live with me in the home and buy them a cat and dog of their own as well. I would also make a big cake for all of us!

Jacob Grade 4
If I had $1,000, I would spend it on a remote control robot that could fight other robots. I would have it compete against other robots. My robot would win every time I compete. In fact, my robot would be a star and a legend!

I can’t wait for Halloween because I get to go trick-or-treating with my family. Sometimes I stay home and give out candy to my friends and other kids. What I am really excited about is my costume. My costume is going to be Deadpool. When I wear Deadpool’s costume, I’m also going to have a katana, pistols, and smoke bombs. After I’m done trick-or-treating, I’ll take my bag upstairs and play videos games while I eat all my candy.

During the first day of summer, I met old and new friends. What I was really excited about was going to the Aquatic Center in Canyon Country. It was really fun when I did 360 jumps, cannonballs, front flips, back flips, and walking in the water. They also had a student store, where sometimes I would eat popcorn for a snack. We got to stay at the Aquatic Center for a long time; until 4:00 pm.

Once Upon A Fox…

Kirra Grade 5
The birds were chirping, the forest was quiet as ever, and I woke up to my brother’s snoring. I turn hearing my mom, Rose chuckle. I look out into the deep, moist, and dangerous forest. “Are we going hunting today?” I asked “What? Huh? Hunting? ”

Jay and Jake, my brothers wake up. They love hunting. A few minutes later
I was sniffing around and then Mom yells “Run! Now! ” I see a tall man and I freeze.

After a second or two I run as fast as I can to get away. My paws hurt but I knew I had to do what I can to catch up. I stop as everything around me gets burly. I hear sirens in the distance as I try to make it… Plop! Everything goes black I wake up in a desert looking cage. I clawed at the fence when I realized…

She was reading a book called Mermaids. She wanted to go in the water, so she put her book down and ran to the water. The water was warm. When she got out she wanted to go scuba diving. When she got in the water she saw fish, squids, dolphins, and blob fish. She rode the dolphins. Then she saw a necklace. It was shaped like a mermaid. She put it on and she turned into a mermaid. So she went off. When she found land she got a home in a HUGE shell. Then she lived happily ever after.

The End!

By Enzo Lovera Grade 4, Sean Arvizu Grade 6, and Zander Deveroux Grade 4
On Wednesday, Sean, Zander and I made a neuron out of pipe cleaners in Miss Audrey’s Science class. We used one pipe cleaner to make an axon. We used two pipe cleaners for dendrites and a cell body. We also used two pipe cleaners for myelin sheets. It was very fun. We learned how our brain messages move quickly through the neurons using the gaps between the mylein sheaths. We also learned about Neuroplasticisity. Neuroplasticisity is when you do something new and it starts a weak path in your brain. As you do it more and get better at it, the path strengthens and strengthens until it is very strong. For example, if you were at a pool there might be a high dive you never jumped before because you were scared. If you did it, it would start a weak pathway in your brain. If you kept doing it the pathway would get stronger and stronger. This is how our brain works. Practicing a skill or behavior can be strengthened over time.

Matthew Grade 5

FIESTA

At C.A.R.E. Learning Academy, we had a fiesta to celebrate our hard work and South America Week! We made piñatas and practiced special dances. Some countries like our country have piñatas, but other countries don’t have any piñatas. Same thing with dancing. We don’t have traditional dancing, but other countries do. I liked the candy from the piñata cause when you hit the piñata it breaks and drops candy.

SOUTH AMERICA

At care learning academy we learned about South America. The highest mountain there is the Aconcagua it is 22,841. The deadliest animal there are the leopards. The top part of South America is near the equator.

This was fun talking about South America and learning here at CARE.LEARNING.ACADEMY..

Elijah Grade 6

This week we learned about the continent South America and all of its country’s. I also learned that the tallest mountain is Aconcagua Mountain and it’s 22,841 feet.  The top of it is near the Equator so the country is basically below the Equator.

I learned how to become a great leader from going to C.A.R.E. Learning Academy.  I think kids come back from fieldtrips happy because they did something for a good cause like the going to the Ronald McDonald house. I rest my case.

Shayla Grade 2

Hi,  my  name  is  Shayla  and   I  would like to tell you  about giraffes. They are tall and they like to eat leaves. Eating leaves help them run very fast. At the mission, we had fun at the church. It was cool and very nicely decorated. We saw a water fountain and small waterfall at the garden.
The buildings were historical adobe with rounded entry ways. We saw real gold in the mission chambers and rooms.
We had so much fun learning and playing on the field trips this week.

Then, you cut half of the banana and roll it in nuts, cinnamon, and sugar mixture and combine it with the coconut strips.

Kirra W. Grade 5

If I could visit any continent, I would go to Antarctica because there are so many cool animals that live there. I would also love to see the beautiful scenery. Some animals that I would love to see are whales, polar bears, and some really cool fish. One day, I would want to study Antarctica and take pictures of baby animals to make a calendar! I once read a book about a scientist who went to Antarctica to study life there. The only bad thing is it would be very cold, but I would make sure to bring a heavy coat along with me.

Brandyn Gonzaga Grade 7

My name is Brandyn and I talked to Justin, a New York Life representative. New York Life is a safety organization that makes children’s lives better. Justin really cares for me so I and everyone else can pursuit my dreams. What he’s going to do is give us our own I.D. so if any of us gets lost they can track it. Justin is going to teach children how to be safe during fires and earthquakes. I think C.A.R.E and Justin are going to work great together because I think Justin is very invested in C.A.R.E. I hope Justin can tell us more about safety soon.

Alexia Grade 3
My favorite buddy is my puppy Ronda. She is a French bulldog and she is 8 weeks old. She can only have a bath once a week, but we do have dog wipes that we clean her with. We can’t take her anywhere unless there are no dogs around because she doesn’t have all her shots yet. She is about the size of a medium shoe box. I also have another dog named BJ, who is a Yorkie. He is about the size of a big shoe box. These are the dogs at my mom’s house. The dogs at my dad’s house are Lucy and Zeke. Zeke is big chocolate Labrador, while Lucy is a small Shi Tzu dog.

Anika Grade 2
During the summer, I love going to the beach. One reason is because I like to go swimming in the waves. I also like to pick up pretty seashells. Also, I like build sandcastles with my toys that I bring with me. These are some of the reasons why I like going to the beach during summer.

Savannah Grade 3
My favorite friend’s name is Sofia. Sofia and I don’t see each other that much anymore, but we would always sing together at preschool. She and I are both Korean. One time, Sofia’s mom accidently took me picked up from preschool because she thought that I was Sofia! Another reason I liked her a lot is because she was so nice and kind. That is why Sofia is my favorite friend.
My favorite thing to do during the summer is to go to Big Bear Lake. One reason is because I like to play in the sand and water there. Another reason is my family and I always go there the week before school starts every year. In conclusion, I love going to Big Bear Lake with my family!

Makayla Grade 3
I have a dog named Layla. I love her because she loves me too and she is cute. Layla and my sister Crystal and I like to run and play in the park together. She is the best dog ever!

Isabella Grade 3
My favorite thing to do is to go swimming and play in the pool. I have a diving board to practice diving with. I also have a net and a tennis racket that can be used to play with in the water. I can do handstands and somersaults in the pool as well. My most favorite thing to do in the pool is play Vampire Mermaids with my friends! It is so much fun to play in the pool!

Avery Grade 3
My favorite friend’s name is Yara. She is my favorite friend because she is funny and kind along with other good things. Yara and I go to each other’s house and we also go to a place called the Paseo Club. Yara and I also go to Stevenson Ranch and Sunshine Camp. At Sunshine, we always play together. I also like Yara’s curly hair! Yara is a wonderful friend to have!

All About Me
Sophia Meisel Grade 4
One fun fact about myself is that I don’t like popsicles, popcorn, pudding, and sometimes cake. My favorite subject to do in school is art and my favorite thing to do outside of school is handball.
If I were to describe myself in 5 different ways they would be smart, kind, funny, and jumpy.

Manatees
Sophia Meisel Grade 4
Manatees are amazing under sea friends. I read a book called Sam the Sea Cow and this is what I learned.
Manatees nurse their young in the water. Manatees are also mammals just like whales and dolphins. All mammals feed their babies milk from special parts of their bodies that are called mammary glands.
Mammals have no outside ears. Manatees graze on floating hyacinths like cows in a pasture. They also have flat teeth. Manatees leave their mother when they are two years old.
Thankyou

Eliza P. Grade 4
What is a community? It is a gated area with houses where people live and play.
What does it mean to you?  To me it means a nice clean area where I live and sleep. My friends live there especially my family live there.
Have you ever helped or volunteered? No I haven’t. I think no one has but no one person walks around to make sure no one weird is there. We also have police patrol they drive around at night in our community.
My ideal community would have my friends and all of my family. My grandma and grandpa, aunt  uncle and my favorite teacher. It will look and be like bridge port, but cleaner. All the houses would be mansions and every one would have unlimited money so you could buy everything. We would have a mini mall it would have every store. It would have Six Flags and there would be no line ups for any rides.
That is my community.

Community
Jacob M. 4th grade
A community is a group of people that work together to make their community better. A community to me means a lot of things. It probably means they’re stop pollution. It is important to help your community so that it could be a better place. I have helped a community by helping them clean. If I could make a community, we would pick up trash, help sick people, and clean the streets
Ronald McDonald House.

Enzo Lovera Grade 4
Yesterday we went to the Ronald McDonald house in Pasadena. We did community hours by cleaning. I looked for expired things in the pantry. I learned that the siblings and parents of sick children live in the Ronald McDonald house. My ideal community is a fun, happy place. We help other people or volunteer in my community. Everybody has a part. My ideal community is a great place.

Issac M.   Grade 2nd

I like my dog, her name is T.C. It stands for Tea Cup. She is only five pounds. She is friends with a dog named Sophi and Londoon. T.C is black and has brown eyes and is the littlest dog in the family. She is not fast, but she is nice and eats little by little. T.C likes to stay inside.

Deirdre D.   Grade 3rd
Finnigen

My favorite thing is my pet cat. My pet cat name is Finnigen. It is a male cat. He is very active. My cat eats a lot, I give him at least 100 foods a day. My cat is like a ninja. One time I was on my Mom’s bed and my cat came running at me. He went on my Mom’s soft part of her bed, and made marks on the wall then he ran away. I got him at Pet Co. His name there was Bubbles. But we got him first. When we got home, my mom clipped his nails and then played with him. When we got him he was 8 weeks old, he was still a kitten. And that’s the story of my cat Finnigen.

Lucca L.   Grade 2nd

My favorite transportation is airplanes because it’s faster then walking. You can do flips and spins. I went on an airplane in Mexico and we saw a volcanic eruption. My mom threw up. My dad was in the navy. My dad for Halloween, dressed up in his air unit and helmet.

Avery W.  Grade 3rd

My favorite thing to do in the summer is to go to Lake Tahoe. I like to go to Lake Tahoe because my cousins come also. I also like to go to Lake Tahoe because I get to go swimming in the pool with my cousins.

Our Community
By: Alana Sky Dalangin  Grade 7

Community means to me a large group of people working together to form a society and they work together as a family. They do things that may change our world in good ways or bad ways.

Helping out in a community is important because those in need might not survive and if we keep losing them, our kind will be destroyed. If we are attacked without community we wont survive either.

I have volunteered to help the little kids after I’m done with my homework in CARE SCV tutoring. I help by watching over them like my family or like a community. When a child is in need, I help them understand and they will learn to be a good leader for our future community.

In the beginning, Greg explains why Rowley is not his friend any more and how he found a new best friend named Brian in the book.
In the middle, he explains all the bad things that happened to him over the school year.

In the end he talks about his weekly baby sister and how he hates her so much.

Also, Geronimo had an umbrella that didn’t work and had to return it to the inventor who made it. Next, a lot of mice were suffering a really bad stomach ache and they were curious how it all happened. Since Geronimo was the only one with out a stomach ache, he had to go on a long journey to stop all these mice from suffering. Finally, after his long journey, he was able to figure out how to stop this great Stomach Ache.

The students at C.A.R.E Learning Academy~SCV Tutors are enjoying the seasonal festivities! We visited Lombardi Ranch Pumpkin Patch and went bowling. In the following weeks the students will be conducting experiments involving filtration and growth of a pumpkin! They will describe their findings, so be sure to keep an eye out for Kids The News’ Way!!

The following stories are a collaborative effort. Sheridan Wilson-Grooms typed up the stories that the kids developed when participating in our Fall Break Events!

My day at the pumpkin patch

I was working with a hoe and standing on a pumpkin. I was the biggest pumpkin ever and I loved it. I climbed it and it was super big and awesome. That was my day at the pumpkin patch. I wonder what kind of day you had.

My Trip to Pick Out The Best Pumpkin of All

I saw many pumpkins when I went to the pumpkin patch.
But there was only one pumpkin that was the best of them all. I was walking around and then I saw the biggest pumpkin of all. It was bigger then the owners of the pumpkin patch, my grandparents. Then we were still amazed when we saw the biggest pumpkin of all it was bigger then the scarecrows too. That was the biggest pumpkin at the pumpkin patch and that was the best of all. I hope that you will have a fun time picking out your favorite pumpkins.

One stormy night on Halloween a little kid goes to a mansion and, finds a costume and puts it on and he got his candy and kept on trick or treating. When he went back home and tried to take the costume off, it wouldn’t! He tried using water hoping it would slip off, but it didn’t. The next day, 1991 October 29, he hoped it would loosen up and slip off but it still didn’t. Finally, he hooked up a tow truck to it and it ripped off.
My Halloween Costume
Kirra Wagoner Grade 4

This year for Halloween I am going to be raven from teen titans and I am making my costume. First, I bought a big purple cape and cut the bottom so it fit me and I wore my black only long sleeved shirt. Also, black shorts and some black shoes with purple socks and that’s my Halloween costume. Are you going to make yours or buy yours this year?

During the week, the students learned about ways to “Go Green”. The Kindergarten through Second graders decorated recycling boxes for Aluminium, Paper and Plastic for the CARE Center. The older grades also worked in a group setting on projects and later described why it is important to learn and have team building skills. For fun, the students wrote some ideas for Haunted Houses and short stories for Halloween!

Team Building Skills:

Makayla Zareno: Grade 6
It is important to work in a group, because when growing older you will cooperate with other people when you have a job. It is an important skill to have because it is good to be social with other people and to work together to help each other. Also, working in a group is good because other people are there to help.

Kirra Wagoner: Grade 4-Inspired by CARE Learning Academy-SCV Tutors
I think working together is important because in life you might not like the person you’re working with because sometimes you might want to work with someone else. That’s why in school they barely let you choose who you work with.

Let’s Go Green!

Julien Deveroux: Grade 4
Going Green Means: To eat healthy, feed the plants, recycle at all times, turn off the lights, don’t leave water running, don’t litter, and throw away trash.

Brianna Mickelson: Grade 3
Go Green!
What can we do to help make our planet a healthier place to live? Three things we could do is recycling, picking up trash and plant trees and flowers. These are three things the help make this planet better.

Zander Deveroux: Grade 2
The way we can help the city is: pick up the trash, recycle, save boxes, bags, container water bottles, cans, paper, toy cars, bingo cards, pencils, pens, tables, puff balls, plastic bones, books, glass, shirts, shorts, pants, socks, shoes, metal, legos, tissue box, posters, lunch boxes, rubber bands, wood, trees, and light sticks.

Serafina Caruthers: Grade 2
To make the planet “Go Green”, I will throw away trash. To make the planet “Green” I will recycle. To make the planet “Go Green” I will turn off water when not used. To make the planet “Go Green” I will turn off the lights when not used. To “Go Green” I will not waste and I will not litter.

Elijah Mims: Grade 5
Some changes that I would make is take shorter showers, drink less water, use less gas, stop building houses, take a shower for 5 minutes. Some people drink water but not all of their water, so basically what I am saying is don’t waste water.

Sherry Priester: Grade 3
We can make a better place to live by picking up trash or recycle. Don’t litter or leave things on the ground. To turn off the lights if no one is using it. To not leave water running. Don’t leave window open with air on.
Halloween Themed Creative Corner:

Ashley Arrera: Grade 6
Horror Film Freakout
This studio lot is perfectly safe in this plane, but not in the other dimension! Rhonie, the security guard, was a dedicated security guard until her mysterious death. On this very spot! Now, her pretty uneasy spirit walks the lot. Gathering victim by victim for revenge! No one has ever been able to spend an entire night in this craft service tent. Good luck! Yep, I need it. Mwahahaha!

Makayla Zareno: Grade 6
My Haunted House
For my haunted house, I would make it really old and put cobwebs everywhere and have mist and make it have a musty smell, and put skeletons and dead bodies. When people enter, I would make the door open by its self to have an eerie feeling to it. Once inside, the door should close by itself. “SHUT!” The theme would be a scary Halloween night and the people would get eaten. Once they are inside, a ghost would come out and bats will fly everywhere! Then, Dracula pops out of nowhere and starts chasing them. They soon hide in the basement and know they are alone!! They hear a cracking noise and they turn around to find a witch staring right at them! They scream and they get so scared they ran out of the house. Who will be the next victim to enter the haunted house on Halloween night?!

During my summer, I went to a water park called Dry Town. I liked it because it was like another water park. Then I went home. I saw a Jumper that was big and cool. It was in my backyard! I also saw a lot of animals. Then I played in Game Trunk which is fun because you get to play games. Then I went in my room and went to sleep. Thank you for my story. I hope you like it. First Day of 6th Grade and How I got the Sweetest Teacher Ever!

Hi, I’m Makalyla Zareno. I am going to tell you a story about how I started 6th grade! Hope you like it!!!
It all started in 5th grade. My friends and I were so excited about being big, awesome 6th graders. We had a great summer. I went to Hawaii! Soon the first day of school was coming!. The day before school I came and I got the nicest, sweetest, coolest teacher ever, Mrs. Cleary! On the first day of school my friends and I were really nervous about meetiner our teacher. As we got to know our teacher, I became more comfortable. I love 6th grade and my teacher!

Jasmine Nitti Grade 5 read about Oceans
An ocean is a lardy body of salt water. There are 5 oceans: The Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean. As rain runs downhill it picks up salt in the dirt and rocks. The Pacific Ocean is the largest on Earth! When water evaporates from the Ocean, the salt remains behind.

Sherry Priester Grade 3
I like chapter books because they have lots of pages to read and some have pictures in the front and back of the book. I think that chapter books have about 50 pages because I like to read some books that have 50 pages.

Kirra Wagoner Grade 6
My favorite book is Harry Potter. It is adventurous and fun! It is a mystery book and I love those books!

Najeeull Mays 1st Grade

My favorite animals are monkeys. If I could make up a law it would be to not kill animals because I care about animals. Monkeys are the most important because they eat bananas.

Mannsi Narain 7th Grade

When I grow up I want to be a singer because I love music and singers inspire me. I’d also like to be an animal rescuer and help prevent euthanasia. I want to do that because I think every animal has a right to live. I think being a writer would also be cool since I have so many ideas.

Niko Rivera 5th Grade

If I don’t become a petroleum engineer I would like to be a game maker. I play a lot of Minecraft and Wizard 101. Someday I would like to create video games just like Minecraft and Wizard 101.

Makayla Yera 2nd Grade

The laws I would make if I were the Mayor of Santa Clarita would be:
No taking shoes off
No throwing trash on the ground
No taking shirts off
No pushing people
No being mean
No biting people
No passing red lights
No killing people
No pulling people’s hair
No killing animals
and Listen to the teacher.

Arielle Zhuang 6th Grade

At C.A.R.E Learning I learned Let It Go in sign language 🙂 My favorite thing about C.A.R.E. are the field trips. My favorite field trip is to the beach. My brother was very very nice to me. I like that.

Super Bird and Fatty Bird Vs. Ugly Villain Bird

“It’s over, Ugly Villain Bird,” said Super Bird. “Hand over the bag of money,” said Fatty Bird. Fatty Bird and Super Bird are part of an organization called The Agents of Secret Stuff. The bad guys they fight are part of F.V. Fools Unite.
“Help me! Help me!” said Zebra, as Really Foolish Villain Bird flew away with Zebra.
“To the rescue we come,” said Super Bird and Fatty Bird.
“Never, you can never catch me!” said Really Foolish Villain Bird.
“We already did,” said Fatty Bird, as Really Foolish Villain Bird crashed into a skyscraper, dropping Zebra.
“It’s over, Really Foolish Villain Bird,” the two agents said.
“No, it’s under,” Really Foolish Villain Bird said as he got put in handcuffs.
“This isn’t over cause it’s under. Thank you Super Bird and Fatty Bird!” thanked Zebra.
“It’s our job,” the agents said as they flew away.

Hawaii, Kauai

I went on an awesome vacation to Hawaii. It was like paradise. We got our hotel room and just went to look at things. That Saturday we went tubing and we went in dark caves. It was really scary because it was dark. I went to lots of different beaches and it was not as hot there than California. this was the best vacation ever!!!

Darin Zareno Kindergarten

At the Natural History Museum I learned about bears, sheep, the jungle, walruses, and porcupines because they have sharp teeth.

Katelynn Wu 2nd Grade

My favorite animal is a giraffe. I went to the zoo and I saw lions and all sorts of animals. A giraffe’s life is tough because it has to spread his legs when it drinks.

Vince Phan 2nd Grade

The Jungle at the Natural History Museum.

The Jungle is a scary, rainy place and it has a temple.

Noah Jefferson 1st Grade

The 4 Muskateers 2nd story, the sequel.

Once upon a time there were 4 Musketeers, Noah, Valerie, Yoko and Matthew. One day, Valerie and Matthew were taking a walk and a map flew on Matthew’s nose. He said, “What’s this?” and Valerie said, “We should call the other Muskateers.” And they did. Automatically they appeared. Noah said, “It was a treasure map.” So they set off to follow it and they found Treasure!

My Favorite Creatures in the Ocean, by Arielle Z., 4th grade
My favorite creatures in the ocean are the sea turtles and the dolphins. I like them because they both are friendly and I love friendly creatures. I have never seen a dolphin before, but when I read about them, I can picture them in my head.

But I’ve seen turtles before. In fact, I used to have them as pets. Also, I have heard sea turtles are very gentle. And I know they are! I also want to help some dolphins because right now many dolphins are endangered. I would feel very proud to help them.

The Ocean, by Maansi N.
The ocean is filled with many wonders like fish, sea otters, dolphins and more. My favorite part of the ocean is all of the different plant-life and the variety of sea creatures. I especially love the sea otters because they’re cute. I also like the blue-ish color of the water and the bright colors of the fish. There are many things to love about the ocean.

My Favorite Think in the Ocean, by Isaiah W., 5th grade
My favorite thing in the ocean is the angler fish. It is my favorite because they have a light on their head so they can see in the dark part of the ocean. Angler fish have sharp teeth so they can eat other fish to survive.
My Favorite Thing in the Ocean in a Starfish, by Angelina 7th grade
My favorite thing in the ocean is a starfish. The reason I love a starfish is it’s shape. I don’t think that’s how a star really looks. I also like the starfish because of the name. The starfish isn’t really a fish, it’s a living creature in the ocean. I like the way starfish feel. Some can be very hard and rough, and others can be soft. A starfish can stick onto objects like rocks, glass and sometimes sand. Starfish aren’t very heavy, but they are hard to unstick from objects. Most starfish can grow new arms and legs if they break one.

Moray Eel, by Kellen 4th grade
My favorite sea animal is the Moray eel. There are more than 250 kinds of them. They live in tropical waters around the world. They live in crack in rocks or coral. They also live in places where there are lots of fish.

Clown Fish, by Gary W., 5th grade
My favorite part about the ocean is the clown fish because it has a beautiful orange and white color. It lives in the colorful coral reef. It matches into the coral. It has white stripes with black lines around it. The clown fish is the fish I like most about the sea.

Things I Like About the Sea, by Elijah M, 5th grade
My favorite things about the sea are the beautiful rolling waves. And the colors of the sea are just spectacular. I mean, I just have a fun time playing in the water. I like the water mixing with the sand, it is so relaxing. I like when the water pushes up against your body. I like when the water goes swoosh swoosh, swoosh. Those are my favorite things about the sea.

Favorite Things About the Ocean, by Karri, 4th grade
I love the sea creatures in the ocean! The dolphins are rare to see jumping out of the water. The seahorses are very pretty and blend into the coral. The turtles are slow, but adorable. Sand crabs are small and cute. Sea creatures are my favorite thing about the ocean!

My Thoughts on the Ocean, by Ayden Z., 6th grade
My favorite part about the ocean is the beautiful coral reefs. Coral reefs are home to many beautiful fish and a variety of underwater animals. The plants and fish in a coral reef are as colorful as a rainbow. I even think that some animals such as turtles are cute My favorite part about the coral reef is how all the animals works together to run a beautiful ecosystem. Sadly, fossil fuels, junk and littering from humans are ruining the gorgeous coral reefs. What can you do to stop this?

Diary of an 8th Grader
by Nick H. 9th Grade

I am a member of the Santa Clarita Mountain Bike Team. In November 2013, when I first started mountain biking, I was so scared of trying it out and meeting everyone on the team. When I got to my first practice, I thought, “Man these guys are good and really, I could do whatever they were doing, if I believed in myself.” When we were climbing our first big hills at Castaic Lake, I was so exhausted and thought, “how do they do it?” Well, that’s where believing comes in.

As a new rider, I felt welcomed immediately and my team helped me and the new riders get through tough hills and climbs. They showed us how to have the right posture when going uphill and downhill and how to take care of ourselves when mountain biking. But most of all, they taught us how to have fun as a team. The exercise you get from biking every week is crazy good. And it isn’t just about biking, we have also learned about riding on the trails, to be respectful of nature, what poison ivy looks like, and what to do if you see a snake.

Since that first day of practice, I am now able to climb around 2,000 feet in just 3 hours. I can make it down a hill with confidence and bike way beyond what I ever imagined! We bike around 30 miles a week Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Once you begin to climb difficult hill with your bike like the hills at Tapea, in Castaic,  then I look back to when I first started and it’s amazing what I have accomplished as a beginner mountain biker. This sport is absolutely amazing.

All the coaches for the Santa Clarita Mountain Biking Team and the parents who helped out were great people and helped out so much. They inspired me to continue with mountain biking and encouraged me to constantly improve. They all volunteer their time and experience to help us. I am very grateful.

Superman
by Natasha P., 5th Grade
Superman is a ride at Magic Mountain. It is high, fast and fun. The roller coaster Superman is 415 feet high. Wow, that’s high! The speed is 100mph, and It was built in 1997. It’s fun because it goes up in the air backwards. When you drop, it feels like you are falling to your doom! My friends hate the feeling of your stomach going “woosh”, but I love it. A lot of people like Superman. So the next time you go to Magic Mountain…do you dare to ride Superman?

Oreo the Dog Pt. I
by Monsi N. 7th Grade
Oreo ran as fast as his paws could go. He had to escape the dogcatcher quickly. He turned into a dark, mysterious alley and heard a noise. It sounded like a cold, creepy laugh. “Psst, come here!” was the last thing he heard before he was pulled into the darkness.
Oreo found himself in a small room illuminated by a single lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. In the dim light he spotted two figures: a bulldog with a scar on his face and a small golden retriever with a bow and hazel eyes.
