THE MIDTOWN MEN
SATURDAY, NOV. 5 • 8 PM

A high-octane musical tour de force, celebrating the best of the ‘60s, performed by four stars from the original cast of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys!” The Midtown Men are bringing their magic to the PAC, singing their favorite “sixties hits” from The Beatles, The Rascals, Motown, The Four Seasons and more!

PAC to Present ‘Goodnight Moon’ and ‘The Runaway Bunny’ Nov. 12

The classic children’s books “Goodnight Moon” and “The Runaway Bunny”— both penned by Margaret Wise Brown — will come to life at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center this month. The performance will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. at the PAC, which is located at College of the Canyons in Valencia.

Advertisment

This hour-long stage adaptation produced by the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia features animal puppets, scenic effects, original art, and evocative music. A celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, “Goodnight Moon” has sold millions of copies since its publication in 1947 and has been translated into dozens of languages. The soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery still infuse young readers with a reassuring sense of security today.

Published in 1942, “The Runaway Bunny” tells the imaginary tale of a small rabbit that wishes to run away, which evokes steadfast and reassuring responses from his mother. The story is written with a call and response structure, which reinforces the story’s emotional pull.

Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia has earned international acclaim for its unique book-to-stage interpretations of the works of Eric Carle (“The Very Hungry Caterpillar”) and Leo Lionni (“Swimmy,” “Frederick” and “Inch by Inch”).

Considered one of America’s most beloved children’s authors, Brown created some of the most enduring and cherished children’s books of all time. She also developed the concept of the first durable board book.

Tickets for “Goodnight Moon” and “The Runaway Bunny” are priced from $15 to $25.

The double feature stage adaptation is recommended for children ages 2 to 8.

The COC PAC is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road in Valencia. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the PAC Box Office at (661) 362-5304 or visit www.canyonspac.com.

Band of the Week

band-of-the-weekPrivate? No. Vegetarian? Absolutely not. This bass and slide-whistle duo from Santa Clarita has been producing music and tears for listeners all across their SoundCloud page.

Public Beef began cooking in the summer of 2015 when two friends discovered that they both shared a love for eclectic instrument combinations and cover bands. The solution was obvious: grab a slide-whistle, pull out a bass guitar, and literally butcher classic rock songs.

Public Beef produced a digital album later that fall and uploaded it to SoundCloud, showcasing the fact that literally anyone can put music online. Their first EP, The War on Tenor: Return of Dick Cheney, is an unedited four-track playlist that includes covers of The White Stripes, Radiohead, and other overplayed alternative rock bands.

After producing their first EP, the band went on a one-gig tour at a bookstore open mic night, and bombed terribly, according to the bassist. “They just weren’t ready for us,” she said. “When you go to an open mic, you expect to be disappointed – that’s the point of those things. But I guess they weren’t enlightened enough to handle the level of disappointment we had to offer.”

The duo has been working on a five-track release for the past year and anticipates its release sometime before next fall.
