The ongoing New Heights free workshops continue this month with “An Evening with Greg Laemmle” in Old Town Newhall. The City of Santa Clarita regularly hosts the speaker series, New Heights, which includes panel discussions and lectures that are designed specifically to engage creative individuals, no matter what level of experience.
The first session, with the president of Laemmle Theatres speaking, will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main Street in Newhall. Greg Laemmle will discuss the history of his family’s company and emerging trends in the art house cinema business. No RSVP is required.
Laemmle Theatres is a family-owned and operated business that has been exhibiting movies in Los Angeles since the 1930s. Greg is the third generation (following his father Bob, who retired in 2004) to head Laemmle Theatres. Greg’s grandfather, Max Laemmle, and great uncle Kurt started the company in 1938 when they took over the operation of two theatres in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Known primarily for their support of foreign-language, independent and documentary films, Laemmle Theatres program 37 screens at eight locations. This year, they hope to add five screens at a ninth location in Glendale and plan to break ground on a 10th location with seven screens in Old Town Newhall.
New Heights is designed to help artists and performers expand their knowledge while learning tools to increase their success. A total of five sessions will be presented in 2018 as part of the Thursdays@Newhall series. Each program will take place at The MAIN. More information is available at SantaClaritaArts.com.
