As part of its monthly speakers series, the Valley Industry Association presents “Marijuana in the Workplace: What California Employers Need to Know” at its business luncheon on Tuesday, September 17, at 11:45 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, located at 24500 Town Center Drive in Valencia. Dawn Irizarry, partner in the Los Angeles law office of Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP, will present.
“Although marijuana is now legal in California, it is not legal under federal law,” said VIA Chairwoman of the Board Teresa Todd. “Employers need to know how to protect themselves and their employees to ensure compliance with both state and federal laws. Business professionals who attend will have a greater understanding of what is required by law for compliance so they can avoid potential legal pitfalls.”
Topics to be covered include an overview of state and federal laws related to recreational and medical marijuana use in the workplace, as well as an employer’s duty to accommodate, drug test, and establish workplace policies.
“VIA is known for its timely and relevant programming,” said Kathy Norris, VIA CEO. “Each month we develop programs around topics that are relevant to our local business community.”
The event is nearing sell out capacity. Reservations are required. Tickets available at www.VIA.org/calendar or by calling 661.294.8088. For more information, contact the VIA office at email@example.com.
