Sad, Very Sad:
The Robert Mueller hearing fiasco on Wednesday had various twists and turns, but what got me was the man himself. I felt sorry for Mueller and especially his family. While he may be one heck of an actor who was trying to deceive members of the committees, to me he seemed like someone whose age is starting to catch up with him and it was there for the entire world to see.
Maybe what got me was that he is about the same age my late father was when he started showing the same sort of confusion and forgetfulness I saw with Mueller as he struggled with the questions that were flung at him. My Dad was sharp as a tack until it became obvious he just wasn’t the same guy anymore, and we all knew it.
Whoever came up with the idea, arranged, cajoled and forced Robert Mueller to that witness stand should be absolutely ashamed of themselves! Those who worked with him or interviewed him had to have known he should NOT have been put in that position. While it may not have been appropriate if he were my Dad, I would have been in someone’s face on Thursday with a “You selfish SOB, how could you have done that to my Dad and our family, why didn’t you have one of his Lieutenants up there?!”
As far as the hearing itself, I think L. Rob Werner, one of our contributing columnists, summed it up best:
Four things evident from Mueller’s congressional testimony:
1. Trump did not like being investigated.
2. Mueller chose not to investigate the origins, lies and other credibility issues related to those making the claim of Trump-Russian collusion.
3. Democrats want Trump impeached for being against the investigation.
4. Republicans want Democrats and government officials investigated and criminally prosecuted for manufacturing false claims of Trump-Russia collusion.
Go, Mike, Go!
I first became aware of Mike Garcia this past April when it was announced he was running for Katie Hill’s seat. We did a short brief on his candidacy at the time, but it wasn’t until I heard Mike speak at a Lincoln Club luncheon that I realized he is the real deal and has the best shot of making Hill a one and done representative of our district.
If you are a fellow right-leaner I’m telling you this guy is a straight shooting conservative who articulates his thought values well. If Mike Garcia can take over Hill’s seat, we’ll have a solid, common sense Republican this district deserves, void of Dem-like thinking that is permeating this state and the swamp!
On July 13th The Signal published a guest commentary written by Mike; these are portions from the piece I think are important to share for those who didn’t see it.
“As a former Navy fighter pilot who served this country for almost 20 years and as a first-generation American, I feel compelled to highlight how dangerous Rep. Hill’s behavior is to the Antelope Valley, Simi Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley.”
“Katie Hill pulled a bait-and-switch on the people of our district. As a candidate for Congress, Hill supported the idea of more border security. But once elected she is now on the other side of the argument, standing in solidarity with the open border members of the extreme left of the Democrat Party. Hill has firmly put party politics and her allegiances to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York City socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez above the interests and safety of her own constituents. Her actions as a freshman representative have done nothing to protect us and our children.”
“Hill supports the American Dream and Promise act of 2019, a program that grants amnesty and educational benefits to 2.5 million illegal immigrants regardless of their criminal records, while taxpaying American citizens struggle to provide quality education for our own children.”
“Katie Hill has shown us that she has more concern for people attempting to illegally cross our border than she does for us and our own children. When President Trump announced on Feb. 15 that the border was in fact a national emergency, Katie Hill went on numerous national news stations stating the president was “acting like a toddler” with “pretend facts.” She accused the president of “political terrorism.”
“As long as Katie Hill and the leftist extremists push liberal policies that promise sanctuary and free stuff, millions upon millions of people will continue to try to break into America, and the squalor of their experience will only get worse.”
“Politicians will say anything to get elected. I’m not a politician. I’m a fighter pilot and rational business man. I swore an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States of America. That oath has no expiration date. I fought for my country. I was ready to die for my country and the oath didn’t come off with the uniform.”
For some it’s too early for endorsements, but I’m jumping in with both feet with a strong endorsement for Garcia, as have several others in the district. I urge you to see for yourself what Mike stands for and make your own decision.
No, Katie, No!
I saw where Katie Hill co-sponsored a bill that passed the House entitled “The Raise the Wage Act.” It may as well be called “The Raise in Unemployment Act,” because that’s exactly what will happen if this thing is fully enacted in upcoming years. It flabbergasts me that someone as intelligent as Hill can’t see the negative ramifications of the government forcing businesses (particularly small businesses) to pay certain wages.
The yearly wage increase is estimated to be $2,760 per worker, so if you have ten employees that would equal a $27,600 increase in expense. How in the world can a small business absorb that?! They can’t and won’t, so what are they going to do? They’ll cut expenses by cutting workers. Why can’t Hill and her cohorts see the common sense behind that and not give in to feel-good emotional idealism that lacks common sense and ends up hurting more than helping?
I’m reminded of a nephew of mine who owns three or four restaurants in the Bay Area. He is as left wing as one can be (which leads to very interesting and lively conversations when see each other), but he absolutely hates minimum wage laws. As liberal as he is, he detests the notion of the government dictating what he has to pay his employees. If my ultra left wing nephew can see the harm wage control does to businesses, what can’t congress people like Katie Hill see the same thing?
Just When You Think…..
I think that old cliché is out the window these days, particularly when it comes to progressive thinking, because when we think it won’t get much weirder it does.
The headlines last week read; “Berkeley Bans Gendered Language” and “Manholes in Berkeley will now be called maintenance holes.” Are they serious right now, they actually took the time during their city council meetings to propose and vote on this?!
Wait, they did pass something constructive during the meeting, it was banning the use of natural gas piping in new construction. That in and of itself is fuel for ranting, but the other accomplishment in that meeting of SUPER PROGRESSIVES dwarf the rubbish of green thinking.
Not only will manholes be called maintenance holes, manpower will be referred to as human effort, and man-made objects will be described with terms like human-made, artificial, manufactured, machine made or synthetic. Gendered professional terms like fireman, firewoman and craftsman will be swapped out for gender-neutral substitutes like firefighter and craftspeople. Heirs will become beneficiaries.
I respectfully ask for my left-leaning friends and readers to please get back to me and explain how any of this helps the city of Berkeley and their citizens in real life situations. Seriously, because this totally baffles me and the only thing I think of is this City Council is a bunch of Kamala Harris and squad wannabes!
Quotes, Quips and Headlines:
It is possible that on entering this church, you may hear the call of God. On the other hand, it is not likely that he will contact you by phone. Thank you for turning off your phone. If you would like to talk to God, come in, choose a quiet place and talk to him. If you would like to see him, send him a text while driving.
This notice can now be found in some French churches. Perhaps its adoption in the U. S. is long overdue.
“Google may well be the most powerful company on the face of the planet because they have a monopoly on information, on what you know and what I know. And not only that, but Google owns YouTube, which is the second-most popular website on the face of the planet. And the problem is, they use monopoly powers to silence voices they don’t like.” (Ted Cruz)
*Yeah, just ask Dennis Prager who has had 56 of his 320 five-minute videos, and other videos he’s produced, restricted on YouTube. (Me)
“Google has even restricted access to a video on the Ten Commandments. Yes, the Ten Commandments. We have repeatedly asked Google why our videos are restricted, no explanation is ever given.” (Dennis Prager)
*Sad state of affairs when the most powerful company in the world doesn’t want to expose God’s word to its customers. (Me)
“This is the guy running these women. Not to say they don’t have their own brains. Don’t misunderstand. But he’s the money behind it. He’s the sugar daddy. He’s a trust-fund kid in his thirties, and he’s the energetic, inspirational leader behind Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and this other bunch of freshmen. He sets the policy for the squad. He’s the one that created the Green New Deal…He writes their speeches. They are his minions. He controls the money.” (Rush Limbaugh on Saikat Chakrabarti, A.O.C.’s Chief of Staff)
*Come to think of it, I wasn’t too sure the squad had the smarts to come up with the stuff they do. (Me)
“Everyone loves Donald Trump, they just don’t know it yet.” (Mike Lindell, the ‘My Pillow guy.’)
Letters to the Ranter:
As for Linda (not the Gary wife) Horton, she is mild in her criticism of my cartoons. I also used to read in the Signal the Doonesbury comic strip that Linda misses. And that doesn’t mean we are far left or that we support politicians when they embrace rioters, assaulters, and suppressors of opposing speech on campuses and in the public arenas of thought. We would never break windows, burn buildings, slug people or throw things at police. And we wouldn’t use the sight of a hat as an excuse to turn violent. TP
I enjoy reading the Gazette news and opinions every week, both right and left articles. I especially enjoy your rants since I am closely aligned with your opinions and thoughts about the world around us. Lee Barnathan is a great reporter of the news too. Jimmie
