Doug’s Rant

| Doug's Rants | August 1, 2019

I Messed Up:

I was going to watch the debate Tuesday evening (we went to press Wednesday evening before the second debate) so I could convey my dismay to you. I tried, I really did try to watch, but it was unwatchable for me. I found myself consciously gravitating back and forth between the Dodgers’ game and Fox News.

I woke up feeling guilty for letting you down and I’m truly sorry (sort of). I fell short on my ranting duty and hope you’ll find it in your heart to forgive me; but I just couldn’t take it, even for three minutes. The absolute nonsense that was being flung from that stage had my brain going in a direction it shouldn’t have gone. So I bailed on you and the debate for the sake of my sanity (and my wife and dog).

I’m Almost Rantless:

If you’ve been a reader of this space for any length of time you may recall one of my most frequent topics to rant on is the national debt, which seems to keep growing as fast as the speed of light. When I heard about the proposed budget that increases spending by umpteen billion dollars I just threw my hands in the air thinking, “Is it going to take a major financial collapse to get these people to understand how dangerous their actions, or inactions for that matter, are?”

Advertisment

Why can’t they see the facts that we will soon be spending more on interest payments on the debt than on Medicaid or the military all while Social Security and Medicare spiral toward insolvency?

I must say I find it hugely disappointing that for all of the good things President Trump has done for this country, he is dropping the ball from the top of his Tower in New York on this one; with huge consequences staring each and every one of us in the face.

And it’s just not him; the conservatives in Congress are as complicit as he is in apparently ignoring this critical issue.  Heck, they might as well join forces with the Dems on thinking climate change is the greatest potential of harm to this country.  Delusional green thinking results in the same non-action on deficit spending then what Republicans are getting done, which is NOTHING!

I May Just Do IT:

I tell you what, if hell were to freeze over and one of the Democratic presidential candidates were to suddenly make eliminating deficit spending their top campaign promise I may just throw my support to them. That’s how strongly I feel about this issue, because I may not be around to experience the horrendous living conditions a financial crisis could cause because of astronomical debt, but my young adult sons and grandchildren will and that thought horrifies me.

I don’t think I have to worry about any of the Democratic candidates taking a strong stance on this though, as everyone of them is touting spend-spend-spend to garner votes as they dream of becoming president. They best be careful of what they wish for, because if they become the person in charge they could have the biggest economic mess facing them imaginable.

The Height of Political Correctness & Hypocrisy:

This racism nonsense is wearing me out and at the rate its going it will surpass the number of rants I’ve done on the debt. I seriously need someone to explain to me how the things the president has said equates to racism on his part, I really do, because I just don’t get it.

I’m not sure if “identity racism” is the correct name for it, but that’s what it seems to be to me. If A.O.C + 3 happened to be Caucasian women would his comments have ignited such fury? If Elijah Cummings was a white guy and Trump reacted to his lies about conditions at the border by lashing back with the Baltimore comments, I bet not much would be made of it.

It’s all so hypocritical it makes me bat-crap-crazy. Bernie Sanders said worse things about that area of Baltimore than Trump did, was he accused of being a racist?

Dr. Ben Carson said that when he used to perform surgery on kids who lived in that run down area of Baltimore, and he would delay releasing them from the hospital for as long as possible because he didn’t want them returning to those living conditions, was he labeled a racist for saying that?

Obama is recorded as saying the area was “full of thug criminals.” When the ex-Mayor of Baltimore was in office she was recorded exclaiming “What the hell? We should just take all this sh*t down …Whoa, you can smell the rats, Whew, Jesus…oh, my God, you can smell the dead animals.”

Trump tweeted, “Rep, Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the Worst in the USA…..”

“As proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”

Again, if Cummings was Caucasian and the area of Baltimore was predominately white, would there have been any reaction to Trump’s tweets at all? I think it’s a sign of the times and a shame that perceived political correctness is at the root of the racist accusations the President is enduring. As usual political correctness easily slides into a distorted version of reality that unfairly labels a person with unfounded accusations.

Sometimes You Gotta:

I should just leave this alone, but sometimes you gotta push back, especially when it relates to this publication my wife and I have put our heart and soul into for 21 years.

I’m also responding because this relates to Facebook and the convenient way it allows people to write things they won’t say to your face. If you ask me it’s a chicken crap way to fling criticisms at a business that not only hurts those it’s directed at, but also unfairly skews the opinion of others who may not even be aware a business such as the Gazette exists. So now before they even set eyes on this paper they think it’s lousy.

This was posted on Facebook last week in a Santa Clarita community group that has 20,000 followers.

Slow news day, I guess. #hardhittingjournalism

Look, the Gazette, and yours truly, have been criticized numerous times over the years. This is fine, but usually it’s done in a mature way, in written form that allows readers of the Gazette to make their own determination as to the validly of the complaint.

The gentleman who posted this has been a Gazette detractor in the past on Facebook and I’ve communicated to him that we will gladly publish anything he or his fellow Gazette haters wish to submit. Someone said I should push back on Facebook when this happens and I will tell you I’ve been-there-done-that in the past until I was blue in the face. At the time I remembered what my Dad told me a long time ago, “Don’t get in a pissing match with a skunk, because you’ll be the one who ends up stinking, not the skunk.

As far as editorial content is concerned, the Gazette is a weekly paper and our “news day” is unlike that of a daily paper that can capture the news from the previous day. A weekly paper that has a daily paper in its market has to be half newspaper-half magazine.

Just because one dude on Facebook thinks having a story about Ted Nugent’s show at the Canyon Club constitutes a slow news day, doesn’t mean there weren’t hundreds of readers who enjoyed reading the article. So take that, Facebook post, and shove it!  I know that’s not very mature, but sometimes you just gotta…

 Quotes, Quips and Headlines:

“It’s your money folks and they’re just pissing it away.” (Neil Cavuto during his Saturday morning show on Fox News, talking about the new budget the House passed)

*The way new management is at Fox News, I’m surprised Neil didn’t get suspended for that one, even though it’s the gospel truth. (Me)

“There are certain things you’re not supposed to say. You’re not supposed to criticize anything the Democrats run. You’re not supposed to criticize anything where minorities are involved because that’s automatically labeled racist.” (Rush Limbaugh)

*So true, back when Obama was in charge, any criticism of him was labeled racist. But, when African American Cory Booker says he wants to punch the president in the mouth, no big deal, right? Can you imagine if any white candidate would have said they wanted to punch Obama in the mouth? Hypocrisy at its finest!

“Wherever you find this decadent decay, you’re going to find Democrats have run the operation, or the city, the state, whatever it is, the county, for decades.” (Rush Limbaugh)

*Did this all start with LBJ’s war on poverty that kick-started the huge amounts of dollars pumped into helping the poor, but was also the start of creating generations of people who rely solely on the government for financial survival and in turn created a malaise type attitude that has led to decadent decay?  (Me)

“The Democrats need a permanent underclass of people that are incapable of self-reliance. And so these situations are allowed to fester. They never do anything to improve the quality of the lives of their constituents. Their constituents are as unhappy today as they were 50 years ago.” (Rush Limbaugh)

*Why do you think Dems are so eager for open borders? They need a whole new group of voters who are reliant on the government to survive. (Me)

Letters to the Ranter:

Hey Doug I guess you didn’t watch so let me give you a Summation of Mueller’s testimony:

  1. trump dangled pardons to those who, as trump said it-”continue to tow the Republican party line of lying and covering up for our crimes”
  2. trump’s AG Barr LIED to America
  3. There was no “hoax”
  4. There was no “witch hunt”
  5. trump is not exonerated
  6. Russians put trump in office
  7. trump lied under oath in writing
  8. trump threatened a gov official in an attempt to get him to falsify documents
  9. trump asked Hope Hicks to lie to voters and Hicks did lie for trump
  10. Candidate trump’s campaign illegally paid cover-up money and lied to covered up that crime, running illegally for office in the first place
  11. trump and campaign lied and tried to cover up illegal meetings with Russians to get dirt on Hillary
  12. trump has obstructed justice x10. John

Yeah, first time, mark it down, I don’t agree with Doug and couldn’t even read through this. Do NOT feel sorry for Mueller. He had innocent people put in prison since Bush Sr was in office. Some even killed themselves with the ruins of their lives. And after the cases were dismissed in the Supreme Court for illegal persecution/prosecution on American citizens, the families lives have never been the same. He is a cancer in a rogue non elected group of officials that have complete control over Americans, illegally and Un-Constitutionally. Bob Mueller should be put in prison. Wendy Facebook Post
