Country Rock Band Made up of Canyon Country Talent

| Entertainment | April 12, 2018

When Magnolia Drawl performs in Santa Clarita, it feels like comin’ home for three of the band’s members. That’s because it actually is home to musicians Mary White, Shellie Dorman and Dave Patt, all residents of Canyon Country. When banded together with the talent of Hugh Cline of Tarzana, the group creates a popular country rock sound that can be heard in and outside the Santa Clarita Valley.

It started when two groups converged almost two years ago. For more than 10 years, White and Cline performed as a country rock band, while Dorman and Patt were in other bands performing rock and rhythm & blues.

“We are like family. We love each other and love what we do,” White said. “We are all trained in music and have been performing professionally since our teens. We’ve also had the privilege of touring all over the world entertaining our U.S. Military. Our goal is to have fun and it becomes contagious and rolls over into our audience. Our show becomes a FUNFEST!”

Country rock is a close, though not exact, description of the group’s musical style.
“We definitely have a sound all our own,” White said. “Our original songs on our CD range from old traditional country, like Hank Sr., to psychedelic sounds similar to Led Zeppelin, finding its way back to current country, ready for today’s radio.”

Rarely does a band capture enough talent for four lead singers, but according to White, their harmonies are among their greatest assets. But they’re rare in more ways than one.

“Another unique trait we have is that you rarely see a female sax player in a country band,” White added. “Our fans love that part of the show.”

White plays the saxophone, acoustic guitar, and steps out as lead vocalist; Cline does vocals and plays rhythm guitar; Dorman is a vocalist and bass guitar player; and Patt is a drummer and vocalist.

The public is invited to celebrate the release of Magnolia Drawl’s latest album on Saturday, April 28 from 7-10:30 p.m. at the Burbank Elks Lodge, 2232 Hollywood Way in Burbank. There is no cover charge. The band writes original music, and songs on this album include such titles as “California Cowgirl,” “Mama Was a Hooker” and “The Hey Song.”

The day after the release party, the band’s music will be located on I-Tunes, Amazon, Spotify, CD Baby and many more platforms.

You can purchase their music or find out where they are playing on their website, Magnoliadrawl.com. CDs and merchandise are also available at their shows.
