Have you ever wanted to see live reindeer, play in the snow or take a selfie with Santa? Now is your chance to do all three at the City of Santa Clarita’s yearly holiday celebration and tree lighting ceremony, Light Up Main Street! The city council invites the public to attend an evening of entertainment and holiday cheer in Old Town Newhall on Saturday, November 17, beginning at 6 p.m.
Light Up Main Street is the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season in Santa Clarita and brings community members together to enjoy festive performances, activities and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy real snow on Main Street, see live reindeer up close and visit local fine craft vendors to discover one-of-a-kind gifts for the holidays.
Children will also be able to take a photo with Santa Claus and get their faces painted during the event. Food trucks will be on site selling sweet and savory options for dinner and dessert as well.
At 7:30 p.m., members of the Santa Clarita City Council will officially turn on the lights and illuminate overhead displays along Main Street as well as a 23-foot-tall Christmas tree in front of Old Town Newhall Library. Following the tree lighting, Prussia, a popular band that has been featured at a SENSES Block Party presented by Valencia Auto Center, will play a special free concert until 9 p.m.
Lyons Avenue will be closed beginning at 2 p.m. until midnight between Railroad Avenue and Walnut Street. Main Street will be closed starting at 11 a.m. until midnight between Lyons Avenue and Market Street. Both Walnut Street and Market Street will remain open to through traffic. Detours will be made available.
