For dog lovers looking for something to do this weekend, Redemption Road K9 is hosting its first annual LA PSA (Protection Sports Association) Family BBQ and Battle Royale on Saturday, July 27.
At the event, people will have the opportunity to observe a demonstration of the dogs that have graduated from PSA, as well as those that are training to get their certificates. People will also be able to hear from Zignature, the dog food brand that Redemption Road K9 uses, as well as some special guests in the field of protection sports.
According to John Anthony, the co-founder and director of training for Redemption Road K9 and the president of the LA PSA club, the idea of the sport is that it is challenging and pushing the breed standards. He mentioned that dogs who graduate from PSA can end up working with the military, police or private security organizations.
Those who are members of the LA PSA club have some unique benefits.
“We’re the only club in California that offers health insurance and workers compensation for handlers, trainers, dogs and decoys,” said Anthony.
For those interested in joining LA PSA, there will be a table to sign up for the club at the event.
In order to participate in the club, or any other kind of training that Redemption Road K9 offers, owners have to sign a responsibility pledge, promising, among other things, to take care of their dogs and not train them to become weapons.
“Our goal is to make the community safer,” explained Anthony.
The event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Redemption Road K9’s property, found at 36260 Anthony Rd, Agua Dulce, CA 91390. Food will be available in the form of a potluck.
To attend the event, RSVP by contacting Shirin E. at 415-504-2379, or emailing LAPSAResearchGroup@gmail.com.
