In just a few weeks, we will be bottling many wines. Throughout the previous two articles, I mentioned our dessert wines and Chardonnays that will be bottled. This week, I am sharing our newest vintages of Ryan’s Blend and Sangiovese.
The 2016 Ryan’s Blend is a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the Reyes Estate and Petite Verdot from a local vineyard. It was aged for 24 months in French oak barrels. This marriage of varietals is full bodied with aromas of black cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, violets and a hint of vanilla. It has mouth-watering notes of blackberries, black cherries, and Italian plums, with a tad of smokiness and supple tannins for a well-balanced wine. This wine pairs well with a blackberry sauce drizzled on a pan seared duck breast, or an arugula salad with Italian plums and parmesan cheese.
Our newest vintage of Sangiovese is made from a specific vineyard selected by our winemaker, Robert Reyes, to create a wine that captures the heart of the 2016 vintage. On the nose, there is an aromatic profile of black currant and plum that continue on the palate with balanced acidity. Enjoy with aged Pecorino cheese, Panzanella salad and cherries poached in red wine with mascarpone cream.
Every year we have an event at the vineyard for guests to see the bottling process. It will be January 5 from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. Its $49 per person and it includes lunch, a glass of wine, a tour of the bottling line and you get to take home a bottle that just was bottled.
Come try our current 2013 Ryan’s Blend this month. And in January, the 2013 Sangiovese will be featured in the Reyes Winery tasting room. Our 2013 Sangiovese is almost sold out. We have six cases left! Don’t forget, it makes the perfect holiday gift!
