From Roger Bean, the author of the smash hit “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” The Canyon Theatre Guild presents “The Andrews Brothers,” a fun-filled musical adventure that is sure to make you smile.
A USO show is threatened with cancellation when a famous trio of singing sisters fails to show, and it’s up to three persevering stagehands, Colin Robert (“Les Miserables,” Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”), John Joseph (“The Wizard of Oz”) and Brandon McCravy (“Guys and Dolls,” “Addams Family”) to fix it.
The show must go on; and it does with the help of a popular pinup girl and background singer, Laine Matkin (“Zombie Prom,” “The Little Mermaid”).
Under the direction of Musette Caing Hart, who was also the co-choreographer, the show is described as a “well-oiled machine, being performance-ready a week BEFORE the dreaded tech rehearsals even started.”
Co-vocal Director Robert William said, “25+ songs is intimidating to approach, we wanted to get the 40’s style and harmonies perfect and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome.” Co-vocal Director Skylar Cutchall added, “We all worked so hard in nailing the feel of the 40s music. It’s been a challenge, but the actors have created beautiful work.”
Co-choreographer Annette Sintia Duran said, “These kids are dancers and can move. They were up for any challenge I threw at them.”
Audience member Rita Hanan wrote, “This was probably the best show I’ve seen in years. The singing, dancing and humor were totally amazing and I can’t wait to see it again. I highly recommend this play and I promise you won’t be disappointed!”
“The Andrews Brothers” is filled with songs made famous by the Andrews Sisters, including “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Rum & Coca-Cola” and “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”.
Don’t miss this show about mistaken identities and madcap adventures – along with the music of an entire generation that highlights this wonderful valentine to the heroes of World War II.
Playing Saturdays and Sundays, through September 7, at the Canyon Theatre Guild located at 24242 Main Street in Newhall.
