| Obituaries | August 28, 2014

Charles Keith Stoddard, 78, son of Charles H. and Zetta Stoddard, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at his home in Sylmar, California. Born in 1936 in East Liverpool, Ohio, “Keith,” as he preferred to be called, married Darlene Hargreaves shortly after graduation from high school, served in the U.S. Marine Reserves, and earned a degree in electronics engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) after relocating to California. From there, Keith’s career took him through early involvement in the Apollo space program, to a long tenure with Pacesetter Systems (now part of St. Jude Medical). Keith loved his family, his dogs, and the outdoors, frequently taking long walks in the hills by his house, backpacking in the Sierras, and going on outings to local desert sites. He also loved his gardening, building the backyard of his Sylmar home into a productive and beautiful setting with many fruit trees and seasonal vegetables. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene. After her passing, Keith married Patricia Fernandez and parted amicably before his death. Keith is survived by his son, Jason, of Newhall, Calif., and two dogs, Lady and Shorty, as well as his former spouse, Patricia Fernandez, and her children. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on September 6 in the lobby of Shepherd of the Hills Church, 19700 Rinaldi Street in Porter Ranch. Relatives and friends are welcome at the services.
