A senior at Canyon High School, Rachel Bowers showed her power on the basketball court in the championship round of the West Coast Holiday Festival at Burroughs High School last week. She led the Canyon girls’ basketball team by putting up 20 points and 16 rebounds, as the Cowboys beat Los Alamitos 53-33. The 33 points scored by Los Alamitos now holds the record for the lowest points scored by a team in the tournament’s history. The win gives Canyon nine in a row, and is their second tournament win of the season. The Cowboys also won the Nike Tournament of Champions on December 22, defeating Corona Centennial 53-40.
“Rachel is an unmatchable force inside,” said Jessica Haayer, Canyon girls’ basketball coach. “She has really stepped up this year and continues to dominate game after game.”
