Sienna Vannoy

College of the Canyons freshman Sienna Vannoy finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, four RBIs and four runs scored as the Cougars defeated L.A. Valley College 19-1 in five innings on March 1. In her 17 games this season Vannoy is batting .340 with a team-best 10 walks. The Hart High grad also ranks first on the team, with 18 runs to go with her 12 RBIs. Canyons (9-8, 3-0) has now won four of its last five games, and remains undefeated vs. Western State Conference, East Division opponents. This week the Cougars were slated to play West L.A. College at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8.

Kaleb Lowery

The 6-foot-5 forward, Kaleb Lowery, is a sophomore on the boys’ basketball team at Santa Clarita Christian School. Last week he scored 15 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had a team-high four assists in the Cardinals’ 66-27 trouncing of La Puente in the CIF SS Division 5AAA Championship Game. This is the fourth title for SCCS’ boys’ basketball team. They are now the first seed in the CIF Division 5 State Championship tournament, this week hosting Corcoran High School of Corcoran, Calif.

“Kaleb is one of the best athletes in our valley,” said James Mosley, coach of SCCS’ boys’ basketball team. “He plays with an extremely high level of energy and is the best rebounder on our team, as well as one of our best defenders. Kaleb played a tremendous game in the championship with eight offense rebounds and two very impressive slam dunks. I am so excited to have him in our program – he is a great young man with a lot of character.”
