Jerry Chandler has been in Special Olympics (SO) since he was a teenager. He has been in basketball for at least 10 years, with softball, bocce ball, floor hockey and bowling filling out the rest of his seasons.

Jerry is a high-scorer in floor hockey. His teammates are his friends and the coaches help him with skills and game rules.

“Jerry likes to be a role model for the other players,” Coach Stephanie Liedblad said. “Last year, he went through the SO coaching training and became a coach. This season he wanted to play again.”

During the week, Jerry is part of a day work program.

Ray Crouse has been in Special Olympics since he was a teenager. He competes in floor hockey, track and field events, and soccer. Ray prefers sports that “let him run.”

“Floor hockey is my favorite,” Ray said. “I like to shoot the puck into the net.”

To Ray, the best part about Special Olympics is that the teams travel to tournaments. “Ray is team-oriented and loves applause,” said Coach Stephanie Liedblad.

Ray attends a work day program during the week.
